Kalonzo Secures Release of Activist Urbanus Wambua Following Alleged Abduction, Condemns Political Victimisation

NAIROBI, KENYA - Wiper Patriotic Front and Azimio la Umoja Coalition Party Leader, H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, on Friday evening led a delegation of opposition leaders to Muthaiga Police Station in Nairobi, successfully securing the immediate release of political activist Urbanus Wambua, popularly known as Kanzala Kana.

The intervention followed what leaders termed an arbitrary crackdown on political opponents. Wambua was reportedly abducted on Thursday night in Matiliku by unidentified individuals operating six unmarked Subaru vehicles a operational tactic that opposition figures have repeatedly raised alarms over.

Despite being presented in court earlier on Friday, authorities failed to bring formal charges against Wambua, prompting his subsequent detention at Muthaiga Police Station before senior coalition officials intervened.

Speaking outside the police station alongside accompanying party leaders, Dr. Musyoka strongly condemned the manner of Wambua’s arrest and continued detention, terming the entire episode an act of state-sponsored political victimisation designed to intimidate voices aligned with the opposition.

"This is clear political victimisation and an abuse of police power," Musyoka declared during the evening briefing, reiterating that the opposition coalition would not stand by as citizens and political supporters are subjected to arbitrary arrests and unlawful detentions.

Musyoka demanded an immediate halt to extrajudicial abductions and urged state security agencies to adhere strictly to constitutional provisions regarding the rights of arrested persons. The Wiper chief affirmed that Azimio la Umoja will remain vigilant in safeguarding democratic spaces and protecting supporters from targeted harassment as political activities intensify across the country.
