NAIROBI, KENYA
- The United Alternative Government alongside the Linda Mwananchi Movement held
a joint press briefing today in Nairobi, raising alarms over a concerning wave
of political violence and targeted intimidation across the nation.
Addressing members of the press, coalition leaders
collectively condemned recent attacks against opposition figures, journalists,
and private citizens. They characterized the rising tensions as a systemic
pattern of organized hostility escalating ahead of the upcoming 2027 General Election.
The political leaders stressed that unchecked
political intolerance undermines the nation's democratic foundation, social
cohesion, and the rule of law. They urged investigative bodies to conduct
swift, impartial, and transparent inquiries into all reported acts of violence
to ensure total accountability for those responsible.
In addition, the alliance called on Kenyan citizens,
civil society groups, religious organizations, media agencies, and
international bodies to remain vigilant against actions designed to restrict
democratic liberties.
The group highlighted the crucial duty of
constitutional bodies, particularly state security agencies and electoral
institutions. They called on institutions like the Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to execute their statutory duties without bias
to protect the path toward peaceful democratic processes. Voter verification

To foster democratic integrity, the coalition
announced the creation of the People's Forum for Electoral Preparedness,
a multi-stakeholder framework focused on driving electoral accountability and
public trust ahead of the 2027 vote.
Concluding the briefing, representatives from both
the United Alternative Government and the Linda Mwananchi Movement emphasized
that democratic choices must be determined by policies, public discourse, and the
popular vote, rather than coercion or violence.
