NAIROBI, Kenya
- The Health Union Caucus held an urgent press briefing today at Upper hill
Gardens Apartments on 3rd Avenue, Ngong Road, addressing the ongoing nationwide
strike that has crippled public health facilities across Kenya.
Addressing the media behind a wall of microphones
from major news outlets including KTN and Hope TV union officials underscored
that industrial action remains active and will continue until county
governments and statutory authorities meet their core labor demands. The
briefing highlighted growing frustration over the non-implementation of the
Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), delayed absorption of Universal Health
Coverage (UHC) and Global Fund staff into permanent and pensionable terms, and
unfulfilled return-to-work commitments.
Speaking on behalf of the caucus, the primary spokesperson
emphasized that the decision to maintain the strike was taken after
administrative avenues failed to produce binding solutions. Union
representatives noted that health workers nationwide continue to face difficult
working conditions and job insecurity, directly disrupting critical healthcare
delivery to citizens in public hospitals.
"Our members are currently on strike because
county administrations have persistently ignored structural labor
commitments," declared the key spokesperson. "We cannot continue
operating under conditions that compromise the welfare of frontline workers and
the safety of public healthcare services. The strike will persist until
actionable agreements are signed and executed."
The caucus reiterated its willingness to engage in
genuine dialogue with the Council of Governors and relevant line ministries,
provided concrete remedies rather than assurances are brought to the table.
Until such measures are taken, health professionals across affected cadres will
remain away from their posts.
