In a major political realignment, the opposition
Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has officially rebranded as The
Ukombozi Alliance.
The decisive movement was announced today following
a joint meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) and Coalition Council
convened in Nairobi by Wiper Patriotic Front and The Ukombozi Alliance leader,
H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka.
Addressing media editors after the high-profile
session, Kalonzo revealed that the coalition leadership unanimously resolved to
adopt the new name to reflect a expanded mission of liberating the nation.
"The rebranding aligns directly with Wiper’s 'Komboa
Kenya' and 'Ni Ukombozi Time' clarion calls," Kalonzo stated,
emphasising that opposition unity remains paramount as the political landscape
shifts toward the 2027 General Election. He reaffirmed that opposition leaders
stand united by a cause far greater than individual ambitions or party
affiliations.
The council meeting drew key political heavyweights
across the coalition spectrum, including Hon. David Murathe, DP Party Leader
Hon. JB Muturi, DAP-K Party Leader Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Siaya Governor H.E.
James Orengo, Hon. Mohamed Ali (Jicho Pevu), Hon. Caroli Omondi, Hon. Omingo
Magara, Hon. Moitalel ole Kenta, Hon. Lenny Kivuti, and Hon. George Wainaina,
among others.
Endorsing the shift, Siaya Governor James Orengo
congratulated the leadership on the new political vehicle, urging Kalonzo to
remain steadfast in driving the coalition's agenda: "The time is
now," Orengo declared.
The leadership pledged to aggressively build and
expand The Ukombozi Alliance into a broad-based political movement, welcoming
parties, civil society actors, and citizens seeking radical constitutional and
governance reform.
