Nairobi, November 13th - 2024. At the SKM Command Centre, a momentous occasion unfolded as former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka was awarded the inaugural Peace Ambassador of the Year Award by the National Community-Based Organizations Council (NCBOC) and the Certified Mediators and Advisory Board (CMAB).

The award recognizes Musyoka's outstanding contributions to peacebuilding and conflict resolution in Kenya and across the region. Known for his long-standing efforts in diplomacy and mediation, Musyoka has played a pivotal role in resolving some of Kenya’s most challenging political and social conflicts, including his instrumental involvement in the 2008 post-election peace process.

In a brief yet powerful ceremony, Musyoka expressed gratitude for the recognition, acknowledging the dedication of peace advocates and organizations that have worked tirelessly to create harmony in Kenya's diverse communities. He emphasized that peace is a collective responsibility, urging more collaboration between political leaders, civil society, and citizens to foster a culture of dialogue and mutual understanding.

“This award is not just for me, but for every Kenyan who believes in the power of peaceful coexistence,” Musyoka remarked, stressing the importance of commitment and unity in addressing the nation's challenges. “Peace is not just the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, fairness, and opportunity for all.”

The event was attended by a host of dignitaries, including leaders from various community organizations, civil society groups, and local mediators. Musyoka's legacy as a peace advocate was further highlighted during the ceremony, with many speakers recounting his previous work, including his roles in the African Union's mediation efforts and his continuous engagement with various regional peace initiatives.

The Peace Ambassador of the Year Award is a new initiative by the NCBOC and CMAB aimed at honoring individuals whose efforts have had a transformative impact on peace and social cohesion within their communities. Musyoka's recognition sets a precedent for future leaders and organizations dedicated to building sustainable peace across Africa.

As the ceremony concluded, Musyoka reiterated his commitment to furthering the cause of peace, calling for a renewed focus on inclusive dialogue, justice, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.

This prestigious award not only celebrates his contributions but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing work required to maintain peace in a region often beset by political and social unrest. With leaders like Kalonzo Musyoka leading the charge, there is hope for continued progress towards a more harmonious future for Kenya and the broader East African region.
