Mwingi Central Constituency Member of Parliament Hon. (Dr.) Gideon Mulyungi has retained his position as Chairperson of the Decentralized Funds Accounts Committee of the National Assembly.
Hon. Mulyungi who was re-elected unopposed to the position, expressed gratitude to the Committee Members for entrusting him with their leadership and vowed to work even harder to ensure that the MPs deliver on their mandate.
“We have done about 20% of the work we are mandated to do, of auditing NG-CDF and NGAAF accounts since the inception of the programmes.” He stated.
According to Dr. Mulyungi, the Committee still has a long way to go in ensuring that every money allocated to the Funds was efficiently utilized.
“We must take off immediately and ensure that we deliver to Kenyans within this minimal timeframe before the next General Election.“ He emphasized.
Acknowledging that a number of the MPs who only serve in that single Committee have lost a lot of time without any meaningful Committee work since December 2024, the Chairperson urged the Members to gear up for more work than previously done.
Also elected un-opposed to the position of Committee Vice Chairperson is Kilifi County Woman Representative Hon. Gertrude Mwanyanje Mbeyu. Expressing her gratitude to the Committee members for giving them another opportunity at the helm of its leadership, she called for more commitment to ensuring that all the pending audit work is completed.
“Voting for us to take up the Committee leadership again is a sign of confidence in us, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve Kenyans.” Said Hon. Mwanyanje.
According to her, it is the Committee’s duty to ensure, and confirm to the electorate that the National Government -Constituency Development Funds and the National Government Affirmative Action Funds have been used effectively.
“ It is our duty to ensure that Kenyans get the services that they deserve. This Committee will ensure that all questions about NGAAF and NG-CDF are answered appropriately.” She emphasized.
The Committee is set to convene a meeting next week to outline its agenda, with the formation of a work-plan that seeks to highlight key areas of priority in the audit cycle, as well as to write reports on areas already covered.
