Kitui leading businessman Hon Kalungu foray into the sand transport business in Kitui County is a plus not only for the building industry but to the jobless youths in the semi-arid area, The COUNTY DIARY reports.
The myriad benefits that the youths reap from the sand business has led to the economic uplifting of their lives, with over 3500 households benefiting from the sand harvesting in Kitui.
The businessman has also kept the youths from drugs abuse, making the segment a crucial chain in the sand business.
He has also led to wealth creation by investors in the transport sector, creation of jobs for drivers, turn boys, petrol stations investments leading to more jobs and enterprise and subsequent businesses like shops and mama lishe hotels in river basins.
Sand business is at its best since independence, we want more years with Kalungu to spur growth and better lives of many Kenyans not only in kitui but even along Garissa road, Kiambu and Nairobi plus motor dealers are also recording big sales.
We urge the county government to construct more sand dams to make this business grow more.
People living along our rivers now have something to smile about.
