Nairobi, December 4th, 2024 – In his address at the Regional Conference on AI and Digital Media in Kenyan Elections on December 3, 2024, Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, EGH., SC., emphasized the pivotal role that artificial intelligence (AI) and digital media play in shaping the future of elections in Kenya.

He highlighted the deep-rooted controversies surrounding Kenya’s elections since the return to multiparty democracy in 1991, underscoring the persistent issues of mistrust, electoral justice, and violence.

Dr. Musyoka stressed the importance of ensuring transparent and verifiable electoral processes, noting that the advent of new technologies such as AI, big data, machine learning, and blockchain could be the solution to overcoming past challenges.

As the country heads toward the 2027 General Elections, he urged for a common understanding of these technologies among all stakeholders, including voters, candidates, and electoral authorities, to ensure the integrity of future elections.
