On August 25, 2024, Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the Leader of the Official Opposition, addressed a congregation at the Kimbo PFEA Church in Githurai during the Sunday Service. His visit, accompanied by notable figures including former Kiambu County Governor Hon Ferdinand Waititu, DAP Kenya Party Leader Hon Eugene Wamalwa, and Jubilee Party SG Hon Jeremiah Kioni, was marked by a powerful call for national renewal.
Dr. Musyoka expressed his gratitude to Bishop James Wesonga for his sermon on the need for repentance to overcome Kenya's current challenges. "Let us pray for our Nation, Bishop Wesonga, for God to make a way for this country," Musyoka urged. He emphasized the transformative potential of having more leaders like Bishop Wesonga, stating, "If we had 20 of you, this would be a very different country."
The opposition leader also addressed the ongoing crisis stemming from the Githurai night of terror on June 25th, where police violence resulted in the death of many young people. "It has been two months since these brutal killings, and we have not been given answers. The estimated number of casualties stands around 300," Dr. Musyoka criticized.
Dr. Musyoka concluded by highlighting the role of younger generations in shaping Kenya's future, asserting that the country would never be the same again due to the influence of Gen Z and Millennials.
The service and subsequent statements underscored the urgent need for accountability and national transformation in Kenya.
