On 27th August 2024, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party convened a press briefing to address two pivotal issues: Raila Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission chairmanship and the 14th anniversary of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution.

In his statement, the coalition expressed strong support for Raila Odinga as he embarks on his campaign for the AU Commission. They highlighted Odinga's extensive experience, dedication to Pan-African unity, and track record in conflict resolution as key assets that will benefit the African Union. The coalition praised his leadership qualities, expressing confidence that his involvement will enhance peace and prosperity across Africa.

The second part of the briefing focused on commemorating the 14 years since the promulgation of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution. The coalition acknowledged the Constitution’s role in promoting democracy, justice, and devolution. They celebrated the progress made, such as the empowerment of local governments and the establishment of a robust Bill of Rights.

However, the coalition also addressed ongoing challenges. They identified gaps in the implementation of devolution, judicial independence issues, human rights concerns, and inefficiencies in the electoral system. They called for renewed commitment to the Constitution’s principles and urged for reforms to address corruption, public finance mismanagement, and inadequate public participation.

As Kenya reflects on the Constitution’s legacy, the coalition reaffirmed their dedication to upholding its values and working towards a more equitable and just society. They urged all Kenyans to join in reinforcing the document’s guiding principles for the nation's continued growth and development.
