Team Kenya Pools Mom & Daughter Together For 13th Open Africa Masters Championships

Team Kenya, the athletics governing body in the country has pooled mom and daughter together to take part in the 13th Open Africa Masters Championship which starts this morning,  The COUNTY DIARY reports.


Elizabeth Muthuka, the popular Kenya Prisons high ranking officer (SP) and Kenya's premier athletics champion at 200M and 400M recently won medals in Spain.

Ruth Mwende Muthuka will be a force to reckon with at the 100M and 200M.

The two athletes will compete in the 200m together – a spectacle that will be watched by millions across the world.

In her highly decorated athletics career, Elizabeth Muthuka has brought Kenya international fame and respect in the Africans dominated sport.

She has won gold in 4÷400  w35 relay in world masters athlyrtics in Spain 2018, with the quaret of  Mbinya, Nelly  and Wasike.

She was a finalist in 400m 2008 at Addis Ababa Etheopia during the tafrican Championiship.

She won bronze in 4÷400M relay in 2006 in Bambous african championiship and won gold in 400M in Khartuom CAA permit 2006.

She also won gold  in 2007 Nairobi Internal Night of Champions.

Ruth Mwende Muthuka, in her days was popularly known as Miss Kenya in Kitui County due to her prowess on the track. She has been an active athlete since serving Kenya Prisons.

" We shared the same track in at a national competition 27 years ago" reminisces Elizabeth.

Athletics Kenya Masters’ secretary general Rose Tata Muya said that they are expecting a big number of veteran athletes as they seek slots to represent Kenya in three weeks.

In Tunisia two years ago, Kenya won a total of 40 medals, 31 gold, eight silver and a bronze to top the standings in an event where teams from other continents featured.

Last week, over 800 athletes to battled it out for the approximately 40 places available in Team Kenya.
