People’s Budget 2026" at Shianda Market, Kakamega, condemning the All
Saints Cathedral attack.

The United Alternative Government intensified its
push for economic reform today, concluding the second day of its Western Kenya
tour with high-stakes rallies across the region. Led by Wiper Patriotic Front
(WPF) and Azimio la Umoja party leader H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka, the opposition
coalition addressed crowds at Shianda Market, where the discourse shifted from
regional development to the defense of national institutions.
Mr. Musyoka opened his address by issuing a scathing
condemnation of Friday’s attack on the All Saints Cathedral. Alleged
"goons" had stormed the premises to disrupt a public budget review meeting;
an act Mr. Musyoka termed a "blatant and despicable desecration of a place
of worship." He demanded immediate accountability for those involved;
emphasizing that religious and public institutions must remain beyond the reach
of political intimidation.
The coalition, which includes Democracy for the
Citizens Party (DCP) leader H.E. Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Party of Kenya
(DP) leader Hon. JB Muturi, and Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K) leader
Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, used the platform to contrast the current administration’s
fiscal policies with their own proposal, The People’s Budget 2026.
"The current regime’s policies continue to
burden the common mwananchi," Mr. Musyoka stated, positioning the
coalition’s alternative budget as a necessary cushion against prevailing harsh
economic conditions.
According to the leadership, The People’s Budget
2026 is engineered to provide immediate relief by prioritizing three core
pillars. First, it targets the cost of living by implementing strategic
interventions to lower the prices of essential goods and services. Second, it
focuses on social infrastructure by strengthening funding for the education and
healthcare sectors to ensure equitable access. Third, it promotes economic
opportunity by creating sustainable avenues for job creation and local
enterprise growth.
As the tour progresses, the coalition leaders are
urging Kenyans to remain vigilant and united. They maintained that active
citizen participation is essential to holding the government to account and
ultimately shaping the country’s future trajectory.
The United Alternative Government continues its
regional mobilization tomorrow, seeking to solidify its grassroots base ahead
of the next legislative cycle.
