NAIROBI, KENYA
- In a highly anticipated court session today, controversial activist Ezekiel
Kyama, popularly known as "Mr. Speaker Sir," was granted freedom,
albeit temporarily. The case, which centered on his alleged participation in
the notorious 2024 Parliament Invasion, saw human rights lawyer and Embakasi
East MP Babu Owino lead the defense team.
Representing the accused, Owino aggressively argued
for Kyama's release, emphasizing his constitutional right to bail. The defense
successfully persuaded the court, and Kyama was subsequently released on a cash
bail of KSh 100,000.
The news of Kyama's release was met with jubilation
by his supporters outside the court premises. Kyama, known for his vocal
activism and unconventional protests, has become a prominent figure in recent
political discussions. The charges related to the Parliament invasion stem from
the dramatic events that unfolded during the 2024 protest.
Kyama, a self-declared advocate for the common
citizen, often draws a lot of attention. The 2024 Parliament Invasion was a
historical event that resulted in property damage and arrested several
protestors.
This legal battle promises to be closely watched by
the public, given the political undertones and high-profile figures involved.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 25th, 2026. This date is
expected to reveal more witnesses and information to determine if "Mr.
Speaker Sir" is indeed guilty.
