Mwihoko, Ruiru Sub-County, Kiambu County Friday, 30 January 2026 - AMREF Flying Doctors on Friday spearheaded a major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in Mwihoko, Ruiru Sub-County, bringing together national and county leaders, community members, and over 25 partner organisations for a day of health services, education support, and environmental conservation at Mutuya Comprehensive School.
The Mwihoko Community CSR Day directly benefited more than 2,000 residents who received free medical screenings and related support services during a one-day outreach programme. The initiative was organised in recognition of the solidarity, compassion, and resilience shown by the Mwihoko community following the tragic aircraft accident of 7 August 2025. It reflects AMREF Flying Doctors’ continued commitment to long-term community recovery and development beyond moments of crisis.
The event was attended by the Honourable Member of Parliament for Ruiru Constituency, the Member of County Assembly for Mwihoko Ward, members of the AMREF Flying Doctors Board of Directors, the Amref Health Africa Group Leadership Team, school leadership, partners, and community representatives.
Speaking during the event, Major Kefa Kihara (Rtd.) said the initiative was designed through consultations with local leadership to address practical and sustainable community needs.
“This engagement is not simply a CSR activity. It is a continuation of a shared journey with the Mwihoko community. We are translating compassion and solidarity into meaningful and lasting action centred on health, education, dignity, and opportunity,” he said.
Major Kihara paid tribute to the lives lost in the August 2025 accident, including Yvonne Nasimiyu, a pupil at Mutuya Comprehensive School, and James Gitau from the Mwihoko community, as well as AMREF Flying Doctors crew members Captain Muthuka Munuve, Captain Brian Kimani, Dr Charles Njoroge, and Nurse Jane Omusula.
As part of the initiative, AMREF Flying Doctors announced a commitment to construct a new classroom block at Mutuya Comprehensive School, a move expected to ease congestion and improve the learning environment. Other activities included psychosocial support for affected families, distribution of food, clothing, and stationery, a comprehensive medical outreach camp, and the planting of 150 trees within the school compound.
Speaking on behalf of the Amref Health Africa Group leadership, Group Chief Finance Officer Jennifer Peng reaffirmed the organisation’s long-term partnership with communities.
“Our commitment is to walk with communities beyond moments of tragedy and toward long-term resilience and opportunity,” she said.
The CSR Day was supported by 27 partner organisations spanning aviation, healthcare, finance, logistics, and community services, underscoring the power of multi-sector collaboration in driving lasting social impact.
