Nairobi 8th January 2024, earlier today, Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka attended a session at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi as an interested party representing the People of Kenya.
The court had summoned Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS) Douglas Kanja to appear before Justice Bahati, following an order issued on December 31, 2024. However, IG Kanja cited a "meeting of national importance" as the reason for his absence. Questioning this explanation, Dr. Musyoka remarked, "We are not at war, so where are Inspector General Douglas Kanja and National Intelligence Service Director General Noordin Haji? This is a matter of grave importance."
Dr. Musyoka, who also leads the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), was accompanied by a team of prominent lawyers, including Senior Counsel Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Senator Okiya Omtatah, and Ndegwa Njiru.
Justice Bahati adjourned the case to Monday, January 27, 2025, and ordered both IG Kanja and DG Haji to appear in court on that date.
Following the court proceedings, the People's Loyal Opposition Team held a media briefing to condemn the increasing cases of enforced disappearances. They also criticized Kenya Kwanza leaders, including President William Ruto, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah, and COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, for what they termed "chest-thumping" during a recent event in Bungoma.
