Mbusyani Exceptional Band Bags More Support From Politician Nzalu Kiluvutu

By PATRICK KIMANZI & MAXIMILLA WAFULA

Kitui Central philanthropic politician Hon Nzalu Kiluvutu is calling on the County Governments to nurture talents of performing artistes

Issuing the clarion call to devolved governments to "not only scout but nurture, grow and market" performing arts, the politician also called for creation of a special taskforce on the same.

He was speaking after handing his token of appreciation to Mbusyani Exceptional Band, a popular Kamba benga music band led by Felix Kilonzi David alias SAVUNI MWEENE.

Savuni (band leader) hails from Kitui County, Kitui Central Constituency, Mbusyani Sub location in Kyangwithya West Ward.

The band was founded in 2019. During this time the band leader accompanied by other seven guys from different villages within Tungutu location could entertain villagers on weekends using improvised box guitars and drums.

By 2021 Savuni had composed several songs but had no funds to facilitate recording sinçe he was struggling to accomplish his university studies which was under self sponsorship.

After graduating in the year 2022 December, Savuni mobilized a group of friends and created a group Whatsapp entitled "contribution towards mbusyani exceptional band's recording".

Half of the recording money was raised then savuni took a loan from one the microfinance funding institutes to boost.

Mbusyani exceptional band recorded it's first album containing 5 songs in December 2023.

The band still needs support in order to:
1. Market the band’s work in radio and TV stations
2. Get music instruments
3. To record more songs to keep the benga fans entertained.
