Kalonzo Declares 2027 Presidential Race a Two-Horse Contest with Ruto.

September 1, 2024 – Mombasa, Kenya

In a significant political declaration, Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, the Official Leader of the Opposition, announced that the 2027 Presidential Election will be a contest solely between him and the incumbent President William Ruto. The declaration came after Dr Musyoka attended a mass at the historic Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa, one of Kenya's oldest Catholic cathedrals.

Addressing the media outside the cathedral, Dr Musyoka confidently stated, "The 2027 race will be a two-horse race. The people of Kenya have made it clear with their call for Okoa Katiba – Okoa Kenya. We stand with the people, as simple as that."

Dr Musyoka was in Mombasa County for a series of events starting Friday, accompanied by notable political figures including DAP-K Party Leader Hon Eugene Wamalwa, Jubilee Party Secretary General Hon Jeremiah Kioni, former Kiambu County Governor Hon Ferdinand Waititu, Kitui County Senator Enoch Wambua, Machakos County Women Representative Hon Joyce Kamene, and Makueni MP Hon Susan Kiama, among others.

The leader of the opposition reiterated his commitment to holding the Kenya Kwanza administration accountable, promising to remain vigilant and assertive in his role. He also hinted at expanding his team, suggesting that new members would be joining in the future.

In addition to his political engagements, Dr Musyoka attended the Akamba Cultural Festival held the previous day. During the festival, former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri made a notable appearance, sparking speculation that he might soon join Dr Musyoka's political coalition.

Following the mass, Dr Musyoka paid his respects at the Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj in Nyali, where he addressed mourners gathered for the funeral of Hasmukh 'Hassu' Patel. In his tribute, Dr Musyoka praised Hassu for his profound impact on society, noting that Hassu had dedicated substantial personal resources to helping the needy and transforming Mombasa. Dr Musyoka contrasted this with current leaders, whom he accused of flaunting stolen public funds during charity events.

Dr Musyoka's statements and engagements over the weekend have set a clear tone for his future political ambitions and his approach towards the upcoming presidential race.
