The Corner Tribe Council of Elders has issued a formal and unreserved apology following controversial public statements made by one of its members, Mr. Mohamed Kahiye Osman, which targeted senior leaders from Northern Kenya and a prominent businessman.

In an official letter dated 2nd February 2026 and released through the Office of the Sultan (Chairman), the Council distanced itself from the remarks, terming them unfortunate, unacceptable, and contrary to the values and traditions of the Corner Tribe of Mandera County.

The apology was directed to respected leaders including Cabinet Secretary Hon. Adan Bare Duale, Hon. Farah Maalim, and other distinguished leaders from the region, as well as renowned businessman Mr. Abdiwali, the owner of BBS Mall. The Council emphasized that the statements did not reflect the collective position, culture, or principles of the community.
“As the traditional leadership of the Corner Tribe, we categorically state that these remarks do not represent our values of respect, unity, peaceful coexistence, wisdom, and honor for leadership,” the statement read in part.

The elders expressed deep regret for any offense, discomfort, or misunderstanding caused by the remarks and assured the public that the matter has been treated with the seriousness it deserves. According to the Council, internal measures have already been initiated to ensure accountability, discipline, and guidance within the community to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.

The Council further confirmed that Mr. Mohamed Kahiye Osman has acknowledged his wrongdoing, expressed deep remorse, and is ready to issue a public apology to those affected.
Special appreciation was also extended to Rer Haji Bullow for playing a constructive and instrumental role in mediating and steering the issue toward a peaceful and respectful resolution.

The Corner Tribe Council of Elders reaffirmed its commitment to supporting leaders and stakeholders working toward peace, unity, and sustainable development in Northern Kenya and the country at large.
