Empovia47 Foundation Intensifies Mental Health Awareness Ahead of Election Season.

Mental Health Awareness Takes Centre Stage at Empovia47 Foundation Ahead Of 2027 Polls

The COUNTY DIARY Editor

Speaking during a meeting in Nairobi, Empovia47 Foundation CEO Maximilla Wafula-who has been at the forefront of mental health awareness across all 47 counties-called on youths to actively participate in creating and spreading awareness on mental health both in their communities and in schools.

The CEO announced that Empovia47 Foundation will host a national webinar next week, focusing on the theme of Health and Well-Being, with special attention on mental health among the youth.

Wafula emphasized that Health and Well-Being is one of the most important pillars for the Foundation because young people form its main target group. As the country enters an electioneering period marked by tension, pressure, uncertainty, and heightened expectations, the Foundation believes mental health support is urgently needed at all levels—from national leaders to candidates, the youth, and the general public.

She noted that during the recent demonstrations, many young people lost their lives, while countless others were left emotionally wounded. These events have resulted in widespread trauma, fear, anxiety, and deep emotional scars among the youth and their families. According to Wafula, this reality cannot be ignored.

Kenya is experiencing rising cases of suicides, stress-related breakdowns, and increased emotional struggles among learners. Many youths continue to suffer silently due to limited access to safe spaces, mentorship, and strong support systems. The Foundation warns that mental health challenges have become a silent killer in society.

Empovia47 Foundation believes that mental health is central to empowering, protecting, and uplifting young people. Strengthening this pillar will help build a resilient generation capable of making sound decisions, navigating societal pressures, and remaining productive members of society.

As the nation heads towards the 2027 election season, the Foundation is encouraging all stakeholders, leaders, and communities to prioritize mental health awareness and guidance.

Wafula reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to champion mental health as a central part of its work moving forward.
