Nairobi, 9th May 2025 – Safaricom PLC (NSE: SCOM) has posted an impressive 11.2 percent growth in total revenue to KES 388.7 billion for the financial year ending 31st March 2025. This performance marks the successful conclusion of the company’s five-year journey to evolve from a traditional telecommunications provider into a fully-fledged technology company.
The announcement was made at the Michael Joseph Centre in Nairobi, where the company also revealed a 10.8 percent rise in net income to KES 69.8 billion. As a result, Safaricom will distribute KES 48.08 billion in dividends to its shareholders for the year under review.
The strong performance has been attributed to a combination of innovation across product lines, expansion into the Ethiopian market, and sustained investment in social impact initiatives. Over the past five years, Safaricom has invested more than KES 18 billion in programs targeting Education, Health, Environmental Sustainability, and Economic Empowerment, positively impacting over 13 million lives across Kenya.
In Ethiopia, the company recorded encouraging progress, with the subsidiary contributing nearly 10 percent to group revenue. Safaricom Ethiopia more than doubled its customer base to 8.8 million. The number of M-PESA users in the country reached 2.4 million, with total transactions exceeding KES 20.6 billion during the period.
In Kenya, M-PESA revenue grew by 15.1 percent to KES 161.1 billion, accounting for 44.2 percent of total service revenue. The mobile data segment also posted strong growth of 16.5 percent to KES 78.5 billion, supported by increased 4G usage. Voice revenue rose modestly by 1.8 percent to KES 81.9 billion, bucking the global trend of declining voice services.
Safaricom's Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) increased by 29.5 percent to KES 104.1 billion, while operating free cash flow rose by 15.8 percent to KES 148.9 billion. These results underline the company’s robust financial standing as it gears up for the next phase of growth.
