Maize flour has topped the list of commodities that have had a price increase since August last year.
This is according to the Current Issues Survey – 1st Release report by Tifa on Tuesday.
"Among commodities most Kenyans consume, they were most aware of price increases for unga, sugar and petroleum products since the Ruto government assumed office," the report reads in part.
Unga recorded a 61 per cent increase, other commodities that recorded price increases included sugar, petroleum products and cooking oil.
Sugar had the second-highest price increase at 51 percent while petroleum products came in third with 34 per cent. Cooking oil was fourth at 25.
These products are basics for everyday household commodities in Kenya.
The Research was done between June 24 and 30, 2023 with 1,530 respondents interviewed from Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift and Western regions.
There was a +/- 2.5 % margin of error during the research.
Additionally, the report also showed that only 7 per cent of Kenyans are unaware of any products whose prices have not risen.
"By contrast, more than three-quarters (78%) cannot identify any products whose prices have decreased during this same period," the report said.
Tifa said it was not surprising that many could not identify products whose prices went down given that the country’s inflation rate was above 9 per cent during the latter part of last year and only just below that figure during the first half of 2023.
