CLIMATE CHANGE AMENDMENTS BILL 2023

Kenya  platform for climate governance ( KPCG ) held a stakeholders consultative forum on the climate change amendments bill 2023 , this comes as the KPCG appreciates the initiative by the Ministry of Environment climate change, and Forestry for establishing a framework for regulation of Carbon markets in Kenya 

 Ostensibly , this initiative is driven by the need for Kenya to fulfil its obligations set out in Article 8 of the Paris Agreement. 

The Chair Parliamentary Caucus on Climate change Lead by Hon Charity Kathambi Chepkwony MP Njoro constituency said that  "climate change has caused land scapes and food insecurity in the country which has greatly affected women and children "

However , KPCG is of the view that the Ministry should have initiated a comprehensive policy on carbon markers to provide sufficient anchorage for the Bill. KPCG implores the Ministry to rethink it's approach on resolving over nominations to the Climate Change Council. Whereas they is need to ensure clarity in the nomination process for non- state actors .

Kenya platform for climate governance implores the Ministry to safeguard the mechanism for public participation and stakeholders consultation enshrined Act especially in the absence of a national framework on the same .Climate regime should seek to foster better compliance with human rights and protection of marginalized and vulnerable persons .
