The year, he said, was marked by profound national loss. Kenya bid farewell to towering figures who shaped its democratic conscience, among them Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, Rasna Warah, Pheroze Norwojee, Phoebe Asiyo, Catherine Nyamato, David Mulwa, Mumbi wa Maina, and globally acclaimed writer Prof. Ngũgĩ wa Thiong’o. Their lives, Kalonzo noted, represented courage, justice, and an unyielding demand for freedom values he urged Kenyans to carry forward. Yet beyond remembrance lay anger and sorrow over the bloodshed of young Kenyans during protests and police operations.
