His Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka, the opposition leader of Azimio, addressed the press today at the Panari Sky Hotel, flanked by prominent political figures including DAP-K party leader, former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and Jeremiah Jioni, leader of the Jubilee Party, among others. In a passionate speech, Musyoka underscored the urgent need for action to address the troubling state of the nation.
This week, a staggering 73 percent of Kenyans, according to a recent opinion poll, confirmed a sentiment that resonates with many: our beloved country is heading in the wrong direction. Musyoka, as the loyal opposition and the government in waiting, asserted that this sentiment rings true.
Amid the ongoing impeachment drama, he pointed to a troubling pattern—state capture echoing South Africa’s experience under Gupta influence. “Our nation faces an unprecedented threat,” he warned, “with key sectors such as energy, transport, and health being handed over through opaque, non-competitive, and secretive multibillion-dollar deals, primarily to one entity: ADANI.”
Musyoka cited the alarming 236 billion shilling, 30-year deal related to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) upgrade as a prime example of the current administration’s disregard for transparency and fairness. “This deal, which we have already challenged in court, exemplifies our commitment to fight for the rights of the people of Kenya. We will appear in court on October 17,” he announced.
Just two days ago, despite overwhelming public resistance, Musyoka stated that the broad-based government pushed through another 95 billion shilling energy deal with the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) and ADANI for yet another 30-year term. “Rest assured, this deal too will be challenged,” he emphasized.
In the healthcare sector, Musyoka expressed grave concern over the government’s reckless disregard for public outcry, citing the recent signing of a 104 billion shilling deal for a defective SHA/SHIF system that has resulted in immense suffering and loss of life among citizens. “We will not sit back while our people suffer,” he declared.
He firmly believes that the ongoing impeachment drama serves as a smokescreen, a distraction meant to divert attention while these multibillion-dollar deals are sealed by the broad-based government. “We assure every Kenyan that we will not allow our country to be auctioned off by this regime,” he asserted.
Musyoka called on the judiciary to remain steadfast in their role as the last line of defense against an increasingly autocratic regime determined to drag the country back to dark days of oppression. “Recent events surrounding the impeachment have made it glaringly clear that this overbearing executive has effectively captured Parliament,” he noted.
Addressing the issue of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Selection Panel, he affirmed the commitment to respect the court ruling scheduled for tomorrow, October 14. “We believe that the formation of an independent commission, one that commands the trust of the people of Kenya, is crucial to safeguarding our democracy.”
In closing, Musyoka urged all Kenyans to stand together, united in their resolve to protect the nation and ensure a brighter future for all. “Let us rally for change and justice, and fight for a Kenya we can all be proud of,” he concluded.
As he left the podium, it was evident that the opposition is gearing up for a robust fight against what they see as a government increasingly drifting away from the will of the people.
