The Ministry of Health has launched a plan to combat tuberculosis in Kenya. The plan, dubbed National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Health was unveiled on Monday by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni. The five-year (2024-28) strategic plan aims to ensure quality care for TB, leprosy and lung diseases for all Kenyans. Speaking during the launch, PS Muthoni raised concern about what she termed as the scourge that is TB. She assured Kenyans that the ministry is working to empower those affected by the disease, especially in rural areas.  The PS said that the ministry is committed to further reducing the cases of TB reported in a year. He recalls his ordeal under blood thirsty Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy (NRT) guards in Samburu East at Lerata market who had waylaid their truck along Archers post – Wamba road. ‘It was around 2:30 PM while riding in our truck registration number KBH 032Z belonging to Mombasa Maize Millers when a Namunyak land cruiser KCW 710E overtook us and blocked the road. Four uniformed guards totting guns and rifles disembarked from the vehicle and ordered us to lie down at gun point’ he recalls. His ordeal is not an isolated case. His arrest comes barely a day after Mwingi Central MP Hon Gideon MULYUNGI and County Commissioner led a high powered security meeting at Katangini, Mwanzele and Sosoma, attended by area MCA, County Commander, County Criminal Investigations Officer, County AP Commander, County Intelligence Officer, Mwingi East DCC, area OCPD, among other high ranking officers and local leaders. The suspect, of Somali descent was remanded in custody as police sleuths sought time in order to piece together a crime prosecution report on the incident.
