The COUNTY DIARY  By MAXIMILLA WAFULA & Patrick KIMANZI  The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) wants the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to investigate the deaths and injuries during the anti-government demonstrations on Wednesday July 12. LSK President Eric Theuri, in a statement, expressed concern over the use of violence during the protests seeking further probe into the matter. “The policing of protests must seek to facilitate peaceful assembly and any use of force must be guided by the principles of legality, necessity, proportionality and professionalism to avert heightening tension and provoke violence from the protestants. New TIFA survey shows 56% Kenyans believe that country is heading in the wrong direction.

  By MAXIMILLA WAFULA & PATRICK KIMANZI   County Diary news  A new study has revealed that as of June 2023, 25 per cent of Kenyans believed that the Kenya Kwanza government is taking the country in the right direction- respondents who took part in the survey said 79 per cent of what is hindering the nation's progress is the high cost of living.Only 3 per cent of Kenyans did not give a response whether the country was heading to the right direction. This is a decrease of -12 per cent from the month of March where 37 per cent were satisfied that Kenya was headed in the right direction. The study conducted by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) research released on Thursday states that 56 per cent of Kenyans believe the country is heading in the wrong direction.   by MAXIMILLA ADHIAMBO WAFULA  04 July 2023 - 11:22 COUNTY DIARY NEWS   Maize flour has topped the list of commodities that have had a price increase since August last year.  This is according to the Current Issues Survey – 1st Release report by Tifa on Tuesday.  "Among commodities most Kenyans consume, they were most aware of price increases for unga, sugar and petroleum products since the Ruto government assumed office," the report reads in part.   Unga recorded a 61 per cent increase, other commodities that recorded price increases included sugar, petroleum products and cooking oil.  Sugar had the second-highest price increase at 51 percent while petroleum products came in third with 34 per cent. Cooking oil was fourth at 25. These products are basics for everyday household commodities in Kenya.
