The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) has officially launched a five-day specialized training course in Nairobi under the title "Countering Terrorism Financing and Money Laundering – Foundational Level." The program, held in the Kenyan capital, is part of IMCTC’s strategic “Capacity” initiative, designed to enhance the capabilities of security and regulatory agencies in its member states, particularly in the fight against financial crimes linked to terrorism.
The launch ceremony was presided over by His Excellency Major General John Nkoimo, General Officer Commanding Central Command (GOC), representing the Chief of Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya.
In his keynote address, Major General Nkoimo emphasized the urgent need for collective, coordinated action in tackling the global challenge of terrorism financing. He lauded IMCTC’s initiative as a practical and strategic step in building Kenyan institutional capacities.
“This training is a strategic investment in building skills, strengthening networks, and empowering institutions against illicit financial flows that fuel terrorist groups,” the General remarked.
The course is set to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of national and international legal frameworks, enhance their ability to utilize modern data analysis techniques for detecting suspicious transactions, and improve coordination and information-sharing between agencies and across borders.
Participants include professionals drawn from legislative bodies, executive agencies, financial regulators, and civil society organizations. Over the five days, they will explore seven core themes: legal frameworks; sources and means of terrorism financing; financial analysis and detection mechanisms; international and regional cooperation; prevention strategies; awareness and training programs; and fostering a culture of reporting suspicious activity.
This course is part of a broader series of capacity-building programs IMCTC is rolling out across its member countries, aimed at supporting national efforts to counter terrorism and transnational crimes while aligning with global best practices and compliance standards.
By strengthening inter-agency collaboration and international partnerships, IMCTC continues to position itself as a pivotal force in the global war against terrorism and its enablers.
