Delivered in Nairobi on February 17, 2025, the Lake Side Caucus of student leaders from universities across Kenya congratulates the Right Honorable Raila Amolo Odinga for his commendable pursuit of the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship, recognizing his unwavering dedication to Africa’s social, political, and economic transformation. While acknowledging the complex factors influencing the AUC election outcome, the Caucus stands with His Excellency President William Ruto and Raila Odinga in congratulating the winning candidate, reaffirming their commitment to the African Union’s vision of unity and prosperity.

The Caucus expresses gratitude to President Ruto for his steadfast support of Odinga’s candidacy, mobilizing state resources to showcase Kenya’s leadership potential. Recognizing the need for greater youth involvement in continental affairs, the Caucus calls on the African Union to introduce student shadowing programs, establish Pan-African university forums, and create AU Centers for Democracy and Governance in higher learning institutions. These initiatives aim to deepen student engagement in Pan-Africanism, preserve African history, and promote democratic governance.

To advance these proposals, the Caucus seeks consultations with President Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, urging collaborative efforts to elevate student participation in Africa’s governance structures. United in purpose, they call upon all stakeholders to support these transformative initiatives for a stronger, more inclusive Africa. END/
