Kivou Activist Harrison Nzungu Snr Calls On Ngilu To Protect Enziu River Against Sand Harvesters

BY PATRICK KIMANZI/ MPPRESS

Residents of Kivou ward in Mwingi led by area activist Harrison Nzungu Snr have called Kitui Governor H.E Kaluki Ngilu to protect both Kivou and Enziu rivers from sand harvesting cartels, The COUNTY DIARY has learnt.

According to area residents, the sand business is causing more environmental harm than the benefits.

Adding that schools drop out rate has also increased as the business seems to be encouraging young boys and girls engage in the business, Nzungu Snr is categorical that the business must stop or otherwise, he will mobilize residents to protest.

“Our kids have dropped out of school and are engaging in sale of sand” said NZungu Snr.

He added that if authorities do not get involved in the matter and halt the business, they would take the law into their hands.
